FINANCIAL AID AWARD INFORMATION

Financial aid award notifications are sent to CSN students who have a completed financial aid file, are enrolled and have maintained satisfactory academic progress.  Financial aid awards are made on a first-come, first-served basis.  The priority deadline date for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is May 1st of each year and our priority deadline date for scholarships is March 1st of each year.

Students expecting financial aid to help pay their Fall/Spring semester tuition and fees must complete and submit their FAFSA and additional documentation by June 1st of each year to ensure payment by the college’s tuition due date.  Application materials received after June 1st, are welcomed, but these students must make plans to pay their charges by the Fall/Spring semester tuition due date.  Eligible aid applicants will receive a reimbursement later in the semester.

Ten (10) days before the beginning of each semester Student Financial Services (SFS) will apply financial aid (including Millennium Scholarship) payments to the student accounts of eligible students.  Any remaining balance is your responsibility to pay before the first day of the semester.  Excess financial aid will be refunded to you within 14 days of the payment date unless you arrange for Direct Deposit with the Cashier’s Office.  Paper check refunds are mailed to the permanent address you have on file with the Registrar’s Office.  Please remember to keep your mailing address current with the Registrar's Office.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

Qualitative
Measure:

All students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 (or greater) for all earned credits.  An applicant whose CGPA is below the 2.00 requirement is not eligible to receive financial aid assistance.

Quantitative
Measure:

Applicants must successfully complete a minimum number of credits attempted during the most recent enrollment period.  Grades of 'F', 'W', 'I', 'AU' or 'NR' do not count towards this requirement.  By the end of the spring semester, applicants must have successfully earned credits according to the following chart:

Credit Hours Attempted Per Semester:

Full-Time (12 or more credits)
Three-Quarter Time (9 - 11 credits)
Half-Time (6 - 8 credits)
Less-Than Half-Time (5 or less credits)

Credit Hours Earned Successfully Per Semester:

9 credits
6 credits
6 credits
All attempted credits (5 or less)

SPECIAL NOTE FOR SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS:
Scholarship recipients must maintain, at minimum, a CGPA of 3.00 to receive scholarship funds unless otherwise stated by the specific scholarship.

WITHDRAWAL AND RETURN OF TITLE IV FUNDS:
Financial aid applicants who completely withdraw from school while attending CSN are subject to the Federal Return to Title IV Policy.  Federal law requires a mandatory recalculation of financial aid eligibility prorated to reflect the student's actual period of attendance.  This may mean the student has not earned some, or all, of the financial aid paid to him/her.  The amount of assistance earned is determined on a pro-rata basis.  For example, if the aid applicant attended 30% of the payment period of enrollment, the applicant only "earned" 30% of assistance.  The withdrawal date is the official date recorded on the Student Information System (SIS) in which the student began the official withdrawal procedure; or the last date of an academically related activity as determined by CSN.

Please read the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy for more information regarding completion of degrees or certificates, 90+ credit hours, repeating courses, loan only, and the appeals process.
