Gift Categories

The College of Southern Nevada Foundation offers the following gifting options to promote the college and support its students:

Scholarships

Scholarships of monetary value are granted to deserving students on the basis of the criteria established by the donor at the time the scholarship is created.  Traditionally, students are selected to receive specific scholarships based on academic performance, major course of study, leadership, community service, and financial need. Every year CSN awards hundreds of scholarships.  These awards vary in criteria and amount.  Some scholarships are renewable, while others are awarded on a one-time basis.

The NSHE Board of Regents designates the college Foundation to serve as the lead fundraising and gift accounting agency for the college. Scholarship donations are tax-deductible if IRS guidelines are followed.

CSN Scholarship Program Categories:

Access and Diversity Scholarships assist with enhancing campus diversity and increase access by providing scholarship support to selected, academically qualified students who represent underserved populations.

Merit-based Scholarships provide scholarships to students enrolled within a degree or certificate program who show academic promise while attending the College of Southern Nevada.

Specialized Scholarships are scholarships that are open to the donor’s specific designation. The scholarship may be named in honor of a loved one, named after an organization or business, or as a memorial. The donor may select the specified degree program of their choice.

Endowed Scholarships are scholarships that are made by a donation of at least $10,000 to the CSN Foundation. This scholarship may also be named in honor of a loved one, named after an organization or business, or as a memorial. Each year the scholarship award is paid from the interest generated from the principal. This allows the initial donation to remain intact, using only the interest from the endowment to pay for a student’s tuition each semester. After establishing the endowment, one year is needed for income to accrue for payment. Endowed Scholarships are especially important as they are set up to provide financial assistance in perpetuity. It is also possible to increase the amount of the endowment at any time with additional donations made to the scholarship fund.

Matching Opportunities: Whenever possible, the foundation takes advantage of federal, state, foundation and corporate matching opportunities to leverage gifts.
