Our programs prepare students for careers in the fields of computer science, software development, cybersecurity, networking, and information management.
Why Study Computing & Information Technology at CSN?
- Computer Science -- Our AA degree in Computer Science prepares students to transfer to a BA/BS program in Computer Science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, or at other 4-year colleges or universities. The Certificate of Achievement in Computer Science is available to high school students for dual credit while attending high school and CSN. The Certificate of Achievement covers the first year of the AA in Computer Science.
- Cybersecurity -- Coursework for the Cybersecurity degrees/certificate provides the expertise required to investigate computer crime, protect networks from unauthorized access, detect intrusions and mitigate damage.
- Networking -- The Networking degrees/certificate prepare students for network administration or for cloud systems administration. A Certificate of Achievement in Cloud Systems Administration is available starting Fall 2023.
- Software -- Our degrees in Software emphasis train graduates in database, programming, and web development.
Some courses offered in the CIT department serve as preparation for industry certification from organizations such as AWS, Cisco, CompTIA, Microsoft, Oracle, and others. So, as you are completing degree requirements, you can validate your knowledge and skills AND build your resume. (Visit the CIT-Information webpage for more information.)
Depending on the chosen degree, our programs will prepare graduates for occupations such as computer forensics investigator, information security manager, software developer, security engineer, network security engineer, IT auditor, network technician, systems administrator, and many others.
