Understanding How CSN Disburses Financial Aid for spring 2025:
Class attendance and academic participation are expected of all CSN students and will be verified by faculty.
Group Assignment:
The Office of Financial Aid (OFA) places students who are awarded financial aid into one of three categories:
GROUP 1: Students who have earned CSN credits before summer 2024
The Office of Financial Aid (OFA) will begin disbursing grants, scholarships, and loans to eligible Group 1 students beginning January 14, 2025. Be aware: changes to your spring registration and CSN faculty reporting that you have not participated in your class(es) will cause you to owe money back to the college.
GROUP 2: Students who have grant aid
NOTE: Any student who has not earned CSN academic credits before the start of summer 2024 term are placed into either GROUP 2 or GROUP 3.
All federal and institutional aid disbursements will begin after CSN faculty reports academic participation to the Registrar’s Office. The Registrar will update spring registration based upon the faculty’s reporting, after which, OFA will begin releasing aid payment against your student account – expected during the week of February 10th, 2025.
All Federal Direct Loans are subject to a 30-day disbursement delay after the first day of the students’ enrolled classes. As such, OFA will begin disbursing loans on or after February 20th, 2025. Keep in mind that changes in eligible course enrollment, receipt of additional aid, enrollment in only late-start courses, or other variables may contribute to a further delay, reduction, or cancelation of pending loans. These delays will not cause the student to incur late fees, and your registration is protected from enrollment cancellation.
Students who have adequate grant aid may receive an FA ADVANCE to buy textbooks and course materials:
• FA ADVANCE amounts vary based upon your financial aid eligible enrollment.
• FA ADVANCE is part of your existing grants and scholarships; it is not additional aid.
• FA ADVANCE will be disbursed to your student account at the start of the semester beginning January 14, 2025.
• The amount of your FA ADVANCE will be refunded in full to allow you to buy textbooks and course materials.
• We strongly advise you to sign up for direct deposit through the CSN Cashier.
Once academic participation is confirmed by faculty, the Office of Financial Aid (OFA) will remove FA ADVANCE from your student account and disburse your eligible gift aid. Your spring aid will pay your course charges and repay the FA ADVANCE amount. You will receive any excess financial aid funds remaining after paying your charges around February 14th, 2025.
If you haven’t already done so, we strongly advise you to sign up for direct deposit through MyCSN, under the “Finances,” direct deposit option.
GROUP 3. Students with Federal Direct Loan aid only
NOTE: Any student who has not earned CSN academic credits before the start of summer 2024 term are placed into either GROUP 2 or GROUP 3.
All Federal Direct Loans are subject to a 30-day disbursement delay from the start of the students’ spring class(es). The Office of Financial Aid (OFA) will begin disbursing these loans on or after February 20th, 2025.
Keep in mind that changes in eligible course enrollment, receipt of additional aid, enrollment in only late-start courses, or other variables may contribute to a further delay, reduction, or cancelation of pending loans. These delays will not cause you to incur late fees or become subject to enrollment cancellation.
Once active and continued academic participation is confirmed by faculty, OFA will disburse eligible aid to your student account, paying towards your course charges. Any excess financial aid funds will be sent to you on or after February 20th, 2025.
We strongly advise you to sign up for direct deposit through MyCSN, under the “Finances,” direct deposit option.
FAQ
For students that have not earned previous CSN credits, OFA anticipates beginning disbursements of gift aid the week of February 14th, 2024. Federal Direct Loans will begin being disbursed beginning February 20th, 2024.
Students should be actively engaged and participating in courses from the very first day of class, including web and hybrid courses. This includes class discussions, projects, reports, quizzes, tests, homework, etc.
Non-active and continual participation will lead to enrollment cancellation, reduction or loss of aid, and the student incurring the charge for the class(es) they did not attend/participate in.
Students are encouraged to communicate with their faculty instructors regarding any attendance or participation concerns.
There are no exceptions to the rules regarding delayed disbursement.
No. Once OFA calculates the amount of your FA Advance on January 14th, 2025, no adjustment will be made.
