Understanding How CSN Disburses Financial Aid for spring 2025:

At CSN, we are committed to helping you successfully navigate the financial aid process. Understanding how aid is disbursed and ensuring your academic participation is very important to receiving your funds on time.

Class Attendance and Participation
Faculty will verify your class attendance and academic participation, which are required for maintaining your financial aid eligibility.

Financial Aid Disbursement Groups
The Office of Financial Aid (OFA) categorizes students receiving financial aid into three groups. Your group determines when and how your aid will be disbursed.

GROUP 1: Students Who Have Earned CSN Credits Before Spring 2025

  • Disbursement Start Date: January 14, 2025.
  • Important: Changes to your registration or instructor reports indicating a lack of participation will require you to return funds to CSN and you will be responsible for the balance owed.

GROUP 2: Students Receiving Grant Aid
If you have not earned CSN credits before spring 2025, and are eligible for the Pell Grant, you will be placed in Group 2.

  • Disbursement of Federal and Institutional Aid: Begins after your instructor confirms your academic participation, expected during the week of February 10, 2025.
  • Federal Direct Loan Disbursement: Subject to a 30-day delay and begins on or after February 20, 2025.
    • Changes in enrollment, additional aid, or late-start courses may further delay, reduce, or cancel your loan.
    • Delays will not result in late fees or enrollment cancellations.

FA ADVANCE for Textbooks and Course Materials
Students with sufficient grant aid, and a cleared “To Do List” may receive FA ADVANCE to assist with course expenses:

  • Amount: Based on financial aid-eligible enrollment.
  • Disbursement Date: January 14, 2025.
  • Repayment: Once participation is confirmed, FA ADVANCE is repaid from your aid, and any remaining funds will be refunded by February 14, 2025.
  • Tip: Sign up for direct deposit through MyCSN under the “Finances” section for quicker access to your funds.

GROUP 3: Students with Federal Direct Loan Aid Only
If you have not earned CSN credits before spring 2025 and are receiving only loans:

  • Federal Loan Disbursement: Begins February 20, 2025, after the required 30-day delay and confirmation of your academic participation.
  • Changes in enrollment or late-start courses may impact on the timing or amount of disbursement, but you will not incur late fees or face enrollment cancellation.

Receiving Your Funds
Once participation is confirmed, and your “To Do List” is cleared, loans will disburse to your student account, paying course charges. Any excess funds will be refunded on or after February 20, 2025.

  • Tip: Set up direct deposit through MyCSN for faster refunds.

FAQ

For students that have not earned previous CSN credits, OFA anticipates beginning disbursements of gift aid the week of February 10th, 2024. Federal Direct Loans will begin being disbursed beginning February 20th, 2024.

Students should be actively engaged and participating in courses from the very first day of class, including web and hybrid courses. This includes class discussions, projects, reports, quizzes, tests, homework, etc.

Non-active and continual participation will lead to enrollment cancellation, reduction or loss of aid, and the student incurring the charge for the class(es) they did not attend/participate in.

Students are encouraged to communicate with their faculty instructors regarding any attendance or participation concerns.

There are no exceptions to the rules regarding delayed disbursement.

No. Once OFA calculates the amount of your FA Advance on January 14th, 2025, no adjustment will be made.

Login to your MyCSN. Under “Finances” you will find the option to “enroll into direct deposit”

You will be issued a check to the address on record, and it may take up to 7 business days to receive.
We strongly advise you to sign up for direct deposit through MyCSN, under “Finances.”
