Manufacturing Skills Training Program (MSTP)

The College of Southern Nevada’s (CSN) Division of Workforce & Economic Development (DWED) offers a training program that is designed to provide foundational manufacturing skills for local employers and to meet the training requirements for the manufacturing industry. Training will involve a hybrid of online, in-class and hands on experiences. Our goal is to certify those who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies of manufacturing production.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age (by completion)
  • WorkKeys Assessments: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents (Bronze level or higher)
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (recommended)

A mixture of online coursework and exams as well as hands-on training labs within a small learning community of other students and instructors.

  • Manufacturing logistics & safety
  • Basic electricity & industrial basic controls
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic, and industrial motors training
  • Intro to robotics training

*All required labs/examinations must maintain a 75% assessment level

Course Learning Outcomes

  • To be able to properly and safely handle materials
  • To understand basic electricity
  • To understand manufacturing processes and production
  • To learn maintenance awareness
  • To learn teamwork and communication skills as it relates to manufacturing
  • To identify, predict, prevent, and stop potential hazards in the workplace (OSHA-10 training)
  • Demonstrate competency at foundational levels of preparatory electricity & electronic training (PEET) and industrial electronic training
  • Demonstrate basic and troubleshooting skills in pneumatic, hydraulic, and industrial motors
  • To understand precision measurement and quality control
  • To understand basic manufacturing systems such as 5S, lean manufacturing, and basic manufacturing logistics
  • To be prepared for a possible career in manufacturing

  • Foundational pneumatic and hydraulic systems training

  • Demonstrate basic and troubleshooting skills in pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Learn to integrate pneumatic/hydraulics systems with electronic controls
  • To be prepared for a possible career in manufacturing

  • To be prepared for a possible career in manufacturing

Training labs will be held in the evenings/weekends

Tuesday, Thursday 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Saturday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Class/Lab attire: casual clothing, rubber sole shoes and avoid loose clothing and dangling jewelry that can get caught in the equipment.

Attendance: each student is required to maintain a 75% attendance rate.

Students will receive an email invitation to accept the course in Canvas. MSTP staff will provide login and password information. Students will begin each module by reviewing the material available and take the corresponding quizzes to that module. As the student progresses, more content will become available. Our Convergence LMS is linked out through Canvas and will be the same login information as Canvas.

Note- Google Chrome is the recommended browser for both Canvas and Convergence LMS. Both systems have smart phone applications but the initial acceptance of the course must take place on a computer.

All module exams for the online content will be proctored in our Assessment Center and need to be scheduled through our office. To schedule your exam call 702-651-7852 or email. When arriving to the take your exam you will be required to show a photo ID and sign in with the proctor. To access the exam, you will need to log in to your Canvas account in the Assessment Center for the proctor to input an access code. If you do not see this screen in Canvas then you have not completed all requirements prior to the exam.

All trainer exams are noted on your syllabus and will be taken in class/labs.

  3. Click the “Create New Profile” link
  4. Complete all required information for your profile

Sign up for the ACT WorkKeys Assessment

It is required that you take the ACT WorkKeys Assessments.

There are three assessments:

  1. Applied Math
  2. Graphic Literacy
  3. Workplace Documents

Students that complete this will earn an ACT National Career Readiness Certificate. Must achieve a Bronze level or higher.

Open hours for computer-based assessments

  • Wednesdays: 12:30pm – 5:30pm (*last seating 4:15 p.m.)
  • Fridays/Saturdays: 8:00am – 3:00pm (*last seating 1:45 p.m.)
