Faculty Senate Bylaws, Article VII, Section 7.3.9: Sabbatical Committee Charge
- Advise the Senate on matters related to faculty sabbaticals.
- Review and recommend policies and procedures related to the above area.
- Review and make recommendations concerning sabbatical applications in accordance with applicable CSN policy.
- Review and make recommendations on other topics related to its primary charge as directed by the Senate Chair with the approval of the Executive Committee.

FALL 2024 PROCESS AND TIMELINE
PROCESS
The Sabbatical Leave Committee members shall evaluate sabbatical leave applications. They shall then submit a ranked list of the applicants accompanied by appropriate commentary to the Vice President of Academic Affairs (cc: Faculty Senate Chair) who will forward the documents along with an evaluation of the Sabbatical Leave Committee's findings to the President of the College.
ELIGIBILITY
According to the NSHE Board of Regent's Handbook, any academic faculty member who has served full-time on either a 10-month or 12-month contract for six (6) years, is eligible for sabbatical leave. It further states, Faculty should serve at least six (6) additional years prior to eligibility for subsequent sabbatical leaves.
Questions regarding sabbatical leave eligibility should be directed to the Office of Human Resources on 651-5800.
SABBATICAL ON-LINE APPLICATION
All of the information and forms needed to apply for sabbatical are available in the Canvas "Sabbatical" Shell. Tips for a successful application are also provided to help you with a successful application. Two of the main problems that faculty have experienced in the past are failing to get a letter of support exclusively from the Department Chair or Dean and failing to submit their documents on time.
To apply for sabbatical, send an email to Sabbatical Committee Chair (listed below) and Iris Melendez. You will subsequently receive an invitation to join the Canvas shell within one or two business days. You are welcome to contact Committee Chair if more than 48 business hours has elapsed after sending your request for access to the shell. If you are in doubt about whether or not you are eligible for sabbatical, Iris Melendez in HR will be able to help you.
The Canvas shell includes the forms, instructions, and the evaluation rubric the committee members will use to evaluate applications.

CHANGING THE PROPOSED DATE OF YOUR SABBATICAL
If you need to change the date of your sabbatical, a Date Change Request Form must be completed. This form is also available in Canvas.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A completed sabbatical leave report must be submitted to the Chair and Dean within 30 days of returning from sabbatical. The sabbatical leave report form is also available in the Sabbatical Leave Shell, or can be obtained from the Sabbatical Leave Chair.
Faculty who would rather not use a form are welcome to produce their own document. However, download the form and make sure that all the items included in the form are addressed should you choose to create your own document.
