The Nevada Promise Scholarship is a unique scholarship established by the Nevada Legislature for Nevada high school graduates to attend community college. As a last-dollar scholarship, the Nevada Promise Scholarship can cover up to three years of tuition and other mandatory fees not covered by other gift aid.
If you are part of the graduating class of 2025, make sure to apply during the application period (August through October), and keep current with the ongoing eligibility requirements.

2024-2025 Student Eligibility

To qualify, students must either be a continuing Nevada Promise Scholarship recipient beginning with the class of 2021 or a high school graduate from the class of 2025.

To be eligible to receive a Nevada Promise Scholarship, a student must:

  • Be a Nevada resident in accordance with the provisions of Title 4, Chapter 15;
  • Have not previously been awarded an associate degree or bachelor's degree;
  • Have:
    • Obtained a high school diploma from a public or private high school located in Nevada;
    • Obtained a high school diploma from a public high school that is located in a county that borders Nevada and accepts students who are residents of Nevada; or
    • Successfully completed the high school equivalency assessment selected by the State Board of Education pursuant to NRS 390.055 before 20 years of age.
      • A homeschool student may satisfy this eligibility requirement by obtaining a general equivalency diploma or equivalent document (i.e., GED, HiSET, or TASC) no later than June 15, 2024.
  • Meet all program deadlines. (Please review the "Steps to Earn CSN's Nevada Promise Scholarship" section below for a full list.)
  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in an associate degree program, a bachelor's degree program or a certificate of achievement program for each semester of the school year immediately following the school year in which the student graduates from high school.

Each step listed below is mandatory. Failure to complete all requirements prior to each deadline will result in loss of eligibility for the Scholarship.

Apply for the Nevada Promise Scholarship

  • The CSN Admission Application for fall 2025 opens October 1.
  • Students must apply as a degree-seeking student to qualify.
  • CTE, JumpStart, Dual Enrollment, or CSN High School students do not need to reapply for admission to CSN.

Submit the Nevada Promise Mentoring Support Authorization Form

Final Deadline: March 1

The Mentoring Support Authorization form is required to be paired with a mentor. Mentor pairing begins February 21.

  • In addition to this form, to be paired with a mentor, priority is given to students that also:
    • Complete the March 1 requirements
    • Report a minimum of 1 hour of community service
      • Review Step 8 for more details
    • Review step 10 for more details about the mentoring requirement

Complete the CSN Online New Student Orientation

Deadline: March 1

To access the training:

  • Login to GoCSN (go.csn.edu) with your CSN Student username (Your NSHE ID) and password.
  • Select the New Student Orientation Application to begin.
  • Once complete, download and save the training certificate for your records.

Complete the Nevada Promise Training

Deadline: March 1

To access the training:

  • Enter First Name, Last Name, and NSHE ID.
  • Once complete, download and save the training certificate for your records.

Complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA or the Non-FAFSA Filer Declaration Form

Final Deadline: April 1

  • 2025-2026 FAFSA Available: December 2024 (subject to change)
    • For questions and assistance completing the FAFSA, please email the CSN Financial Aid Office at FAFSA@csn.edu.
    • DACA students are required to complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA
  • For assistance, register for a FAFSA Workshop

Students not eligible to complete a 2025-2026 FAFSA must complete and submit the Non-FAFSA Filer Declaration no later than May 1.


Students with less than six previously completed CSN credits must take placement tests for Math and English or submit valid (less than two years old) ACT or SAT scores for course placement.

  • Placement testing/test score submission must be completed prior to meeting with an Academic Advisor.
  • Fall 2025 Academic Advising appointments open mid-April.

Meet with an Academic Advisor & Register for Classes

It is recommended the fall schedule is finalized on or before August 1.

Register for a minimum of 12-credit, that are required for your certificate or degree program at CSN for the fall semester.

  • Waitlisted classes do not count toward the 12-credit enrollment requirement for the Nevada Promise Scholarship.
  • Financial Aid can only be awarded to eligible students enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits applicable to their degree.

Report Community Service Hours

Deadline: May 1
Required: 8 Hours 
Eligible Service Hour Dates: May 1, 2024 - May 1, 2025

  • Service hours must be reported using the NV Promise Community Service webform.
  • Additional documentation should be kept by the student, by using the NV Promise Volunteer Timesheet or the service organization’s volunteer tracking system.
  • A signature from the service organization is only required if the organization does not provide an official method of tracking and recording service activities.

Note: All community service submissions will be reviewed for compliance before the applying the activity to the student record. Students can verify with the office if their hours were approved.. Eligible service activity guidelines are listed on the Nevada Promise Community Service page.

Complete the Financial Aid Verification Process

(Only if selected for verification)

  • To determine if you were selected for FAFSA Verification
    • Review your MyCSN To Do List for a verification alert
    • Review your email for emails from Verification Gateway/Inceptia

Meet with your Assigned Mentor

Deadline: July 1

You are required to meet with an assigned mentor at least once by the deadline.

  • Mentor pairing will begin February 21.
    • To be paired with a mentor you must complete steps #1-5.
    • Students that report at least 4 hours of community service and complete steps 1 – 5 will be paired with a mentor first.
    • Mentor assignments will be distributed via email.

Last Mentor pairing will take place on May 1.

Nevada Promise Scholarship Award Details

As a last-dollar scholarship, the Nevada Promise Scholarship can cover up to three years of tuition and other mandatory fees not covered by other gift aid.

Please review CSN Cost of Attendance for additional details.

Gift aid is defined as a Federal Pell Grant, a Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), a Silver State Opportunity Grant (SSOG), or a Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship (GGMS).

  • NV Promise is last-dollar and is the last item awarded; but only if you still have a remaining balance due towards mandatory fees.
  • What to look for:
    • Before the semester's payment deadline, you will see a Protection from Enrollment Cancellation Hold in MyCSN.
      • The hold will keep you in your classes and allows Financial Aid time to finish their process.
    • If you are Promise Eligible and do not see the hold by the semester payment deadline, please contact our office as soon as possible.

Scholarship Funding and Renewal

The Nevada Promise Scholarship is a state funded program. Awards are contingent on available funding. If sufficient funds are not available to all eligible students, scholarships will be awarded based on the following priorities:

  • First, students who have received the award in previous academic years, on a first-come, first-served basis, based on the FAFSA completion date.
  • Second, students who would be receiving the award for the first time on a first-come, first-served basis based on the FAFSA completion date.

To qualify for a Nevada Promise Scholarship renewal, you must:

  • Meet all 2022-2023 eligibility requirements.  
    • Students who failed to meet any 2022-2023 eligibility requirements are not eligible for renewal.
  • Meet all program requirements and deadlines.
  • Be enrolled in at least 12 eligible semester credits hours:
    • In an associate degree program, or a certificate of achievement program eligible for financial aid at CSN for the fall and spring semester.
    • If you are scheduled to graduate and have less than 12 credits remaining the for the semester, submit a Nevada Promise Scholarship Appeal for approval to take less than 12 credits.
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined by CSN’s Financial Aid Office.

And you must not:

  • Have earned a prior associate or bachelor’s degree.

An appeal and request for a leave of absence process is available to Nevada Promise Scholarship students for the following reasons:

  • Missed deadline or late completion of one or more Nevada Promise Scholarship requirements
  • Enroll in less than 12 credits for a semester
    • Students working with CSN’s Disability Resource Center who are unable to enroll full time
    • Students in their last semester before graduating and have less than 12 credits remaining
  • Leave of Absence due to personal, medical, religious, etc. reasons
    • Students must be eligible for the scholarship before taking an approved leave of absence
