Who Qualifies for a Nevada Promise Scholarship Renewal?
To qualify for a Nevada Promise Scholarship renewal, you must:
- Meet all 2023-2024 eligibility requirements.
- Students who failed to meet any 2023-2024 eligibility requirements are not eligible for renewal.
- Meet all program requirements and deadline.
- Be enrolled in at least 12 eligible semester credits hours
- In an associate degree program, or a certificate of achievement program eligible for financial aid at CSN for the fall and spring semester
- If you are scheduled to graduate and have less than 12 credits remaining for the semester, submit a Nevada Promise Scholarship Appeal for approval to receive the scholarship with less than 12 credits.
- Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined by CSN’s Financial Aid Office.
And you must not:
- Have earned a prior associate or bachelor’s degree.
As a friendly reminder, the Nevada Promise Scholarship is a last dollar scholarship and will only cover remaining eligible fees after gift aid has been applied. Gift aid, in this case, is defined as the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, Silver State Opportunity Grant or Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship.
Required Steps for Scholarship Renewal
- Enroll in at least 12 eligible credits.
- Credits must be Financial Aid Eligible
- Community Service - Due January 1st.
- Complete and report eight community service hours each semester.
- All community service submissions will be reviewed for compliance before crediting the hours to the student record. Students can submit their hours for credit here: Community Service Form
- Meet With Your Mentor - Due January 1st.
- Meet with your mentor at least once by the semester deadline
- Meet SAP

Note: Failure to complete a step by the deadline will result in loss of scholarship eligibility.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- FAFSA - Due April 1st
- FAFSA application is available in December (subject to change).
- DACA students are required to complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA.
- Students not eligible to complete a 2025-2026 FAFSA must complete and submit the Non-FAFSA Filer Declaration no later than April 1.
- Financial Aid Verification: Due July 1 (if selected)
- If selected for Verification, confirm your financial aid eligibility.
- Check your To Do list in your MyCSN account and submit all required documentation to CSN’s Financial Aid Office no later than July 1.

CSN will update your Promise status on your MyCSN To Do List and the Nevada Promise Scholarship Office will contact you via email with important reminders. Please check your CSN email on a regular basis. Also, make sure your contact information is always current and up to date in your MyCSN account.
Other Requirements for Full-time CSN Students
Fall and Spring Semester: Connect with the Academic Advising Office and schedule a meeting to discuss your academic plan, SAP, academic progress, and to register for classes.

- To meet with an advisor on campus, students should check into the advising queue online or at their preferred campus and select the ‘In-person Academic Advising’ queue. You will receive a text message alerting you when it is your turn to see an advisor.
- To meet with an advisor by phone, students can use the check into the advising queue at https://www.csn.edu/coyoteq and choose the “Academic Advising by Phone” queue. When you reach the front of the queue for "Academic Advising by Phone," you will receive a phone call from an academic advisor.

Graduation: If you have fewer than 12 credits remaining for your last semester at CSN, please submit the Nevada Promise Appeal for Eligibility or Leave of Absence and upload a copy of your degree sheet, signed by an Advisor, to notify them of your intent to graduate.
Nevada Promise Scholarship Details
As a last-dollar scholarship, the Nevada Promise Scholarship can cover up to three years of tuition and other mandatory fees not covered by other gift aid.

Gift aid is defined as a Federal Pell Grant, a Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), a Silver State Opportunity Grant (SSOG), or a Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship (GGMS).
- NV Promise is last-dollar and is the last item awarded; but only if you still have a remaining balance due towards mandatory fees.
- What to look for:
- Before the semester's payment deadline, you will see a Protection from Enrollment Cancellation Hold in MyCSN.
- The hold will keep you in your classes and allows Financial Aid time to finish their process.
- If you are Promise Eligible and do not see the hold by the semester payment deadline, please contact our office as soon as possible.

The Nevada Promise Scholarship is a state funded program. Awards are contingent on available funding. If sufficient funds are not available to all eligible students, scholarships will be awarded based on the following priorities:
- First, students who have received the award in previous academic years, on a first-come, first-served basis, based on the FAFSA completion date.
- Second, students who would be receiving the award for the first time on a first-come, first-served basis based on the FAFSA completion date.

An appeal and request for a leave of absence process is available to Nevada Promise Scholarship students for the following reasons:
- Missed deadline or late completion of one or more Nevada Promise Scholarship requirements
- Enroll in less than 12 credits for a semester
- Students working with CSN’s Disability Resource Center who are unable to enroll full-time
- Students seeking accommodations must register with CSN's Disability Resource Center
- Students in their last semester before graduating and have less than 12 credits remaining
- Students working with CSN’s Disability Resource Center who are unable to enroll full-time
- Leave of Absence due to personal, medical, religious, etc. reasons
- Students must be eligible for the scholarship before taking an approved leave of absence
